Well that didn't take long.
Heralded Chicago Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler hit a two-run home run in his very first major league at bat Wednesday versus the Cincinnati Reds.
The last Cub to homer in his first at-bat also did it in Cincinnati — Starlin Castro off Homer Bailey on May 7, 2010.
The Cuban right fielder joined the team at the start of the three-game series and started in his first game. Soler also had an RBI single off Jonathan Broxton in the eighth, cutting the score to 6-5 in a game the Cubs eventually lost 7-5.
Soler hit .282 at Triple-A Iowa, but a whopping .340 combined at all of his minor league stops this season.
Other players to join the big league club that have been considered the core of the future include Arismendy Alcantara and Javier Baez.
More prospects await in the minors, including third baseman Kris Bryant and infielder Addison Russell.
Cubs fans are clutching onto any thread of hope, having watched the team go 59-72, good for last place in the NL Central.
