Bears fans, if you plan on tailgating this fall, be sure to bring your checklist: blue-and-orange jackets, mini grill, burgers, beverages… and extra cash.
Parking spots at the lot beneath McCormick Place Lakeside Center and at 31st St and Moe Dr will cost $25 each, a sharp increase from last season's price of $17. And while RV drivers paid $34 last year, this season they'll be paying $50.
According to Mary Kay Marquisos, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority, the price hike is necessary to cover "the cost of security, portable toilet facility rental, shuttle buses, cleaning, and parking taxes." (Sun-Times)
Despite a bit of complaining, most fans probably won't let the higher prices deter them. The lots are still cheaper than those closer to Soldier Field, where parking costs $45. (RVs pay $120.) Additionally, for the first time this year, 400 of the 2,000 spaces will be available for advance purchase for up to 10 games.
Grillers, be sure to show up early on Game Day. Overflow traffic at 31st Street will have to park in the underground lot, where grills and fires are not allowed.
There is no word on whether higher prices will mean higher scores.
