Suburban Couple Gets Married With The Stanley Cup

Chicago Blackhawks fans lined up outside of Bolingbrook Golf Course Thursday eagerly anticipating getting their picture with the beloved Stanley Cup. But most had no idea they were also about to witness a wedding.

It was when that same golf club hosted Lord Stanley in 2013 when Jim Anderson asked Jeanne Hansen to marry him.

“He said, ‘When the Cup comes back, when the Hawks win again we should get married,” Hansen told NBC Chicago. And here we are today!”

The couple’s wedding invitations were an exact replica of the Stanley Cup Final tickets, and both even donned special “bride” and “groom” jerseys.

Ditching traditional high heels, the bride walked down the aisle in custom Hawks sneakers.

Family and friends are also wore their Blackhawks best to the event, which perfectly coordinated with all the other fans who had no idea they would end up in attendance.

“It's like when you go to the United Center and you have 22,000 family members there,” the groom said. “That's what it feels like today.”

They each wrote their own vows, which of course included hockey references, and when pronounced husband and wife they did what any fan would do.

“Good luck for the rest of their life,” surprised fan Bob Parizek said of witnessing the nuptials. “I've been married 45 years! Hopefully they can go as long!”
