Sox Swap Subpar Outfielders with Boston
So long Brian Anderson, hello Mark Kotsay.
See you later, Mr. Anderson.
The White Sox have finally rid themselves of Brian Anderson.
The Sox traded the under producing outfielder to the Red Sox for Mark Kotsay and cash.
Both teams were in second place in their divisions when they made the deal Tuesday.
Kotsay, 33, is a career .281 hitter who lacks power and couldn’t crack the Red Sox’ lineup The 6-foot-0, 205-pounder batted .257 with one homer and five RBI in 27 games with the Red Sox in 2009 before being designated for assignment on July 24.
Still, he’s an improvement over the 27-year-old Anderson, who hit .238 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 65 games with the White Sox this season.. He is a career .225 hitter who also lacks power.
The White Sox also came to terms with their second round draft pick Trayce Thompson.
Thompson, the son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson, was recommended by White Sox scout Mike Baker and will make his professional debut with Advanced Rookie Bristol.
A few days still remain before the trade deadline, which expires on July 31.
