Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly may have hung up his spikes after the 2013 season, but he’s finding his name back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons on Friday as he has reportedly been charged with three counts of insurance fraud.
The charges, which were brought in San Luis Obispo County in California, all involve vehicle insurance fraud, and were first reported by KSBY on Thursday night. Lilly pleaded not guilty earlier this week to all three charges, according to the report. He is due back in court on February 5.
Lilly currently serves as a special assistant to the G.M. for the Cubs, the team he pitched for from 2007-2010. In those seasons, Lilly went 47-34 in 113 starts, and he racked up a 3.70 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.
According to the charges, Lilly damaged his RV, but didn’t report the accident until he purchased insurance. The RV was worth $200,000, according to the KSBY report.
