Report: Bulls Aggressively Pursuing Dwyane Wade

The Chicago Bulls have a stated goal to become a younger and more athletic team, but that isn’t stopping the team from aggressively pursuing one of the foremost veteran free agents on the market.

According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Bulls are one of the two teams in hottest pursuit of free agent guard Dwyane Wade. Wade, who was the object of the Bulls’ desire back in the summer of 2010 before re-signing with the Miami Heat, has become dissatisfied with the situation on South Beach, and is looking very seriously at other contract offers.

From Wojnarowski’s report:

“The Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Milwaukee Bucks have started a courtship process that has included offers in length of two and three years and upward of $20 million a season – a salary the Heat so far have been reluctant to offer, league sources said.”

If the Bulls end up getting Wade, they will get a high-profile player that grew up in Chicago, but they will also get a player who has been dealing with a slew of injuries in recent years. Wade averaged 19 points and 4.6 assists per game last season with the Heat, but he did miss eight games due to injury on the year.

Back in 2010, the Bulls targeted both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in free agency as the team looked to put pieces around Derrick Rose in Chicago. Wade gave serious thought to the Bulls’ offer before agreeing to stay in Miami and helping to convince James to join him there.

Wade grew up in Chicago before playing his college ball at Marquette University.
