Public Visitation, Memorial Services to be Held for Minnie Minoso

A public visitation for Minnie Minoso will be held Friday, followed by a memorial service Saturday, the White Sox legend’s family announced.

The visitation will be held at Holy Family Church at 1080 Roosevelt Road in Chicago and be held from 12 to 8 p.m.

Memorial services will begin at noon Saturday at the same venue. A procession immediately following the memorial service will drive by U.S. Cellular Field. Minoso made his debut at Comiskey Park – now U.S. Cellular field – in 1951, and his play time with the team spanned four decades.

The Cuban-born Minoso was the first black player for the South Side baseball team. He is a nine-time All-Star outfielder and Gold Glove winner.

The family of Minoso has asked in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Minnie’s memory to Chicago White Sox Charities. To donate, click here.
