Find out what happens when Ozzie Guillen's emailers stop being polite, and start being even dumber than usual.
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen knew the e-mail box would fill up when the announcement was made Monday. So when the club recalled Carlos Quentin from his rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte and Brian Anderson was sent down over Dewayne Wise, sure enough, the ''Ozzie is a racist'' comments were fired.
This is one of the rare instances when Ozzie Guillen's "fans" are actually crazier than Ozzie himself. Yeesh.
Can we talk about this for a second? People: Ozzie Guillen is not racist because he dislikes Brian Anderson's production. He is not racist because he seems to prefer DeWayne Wise. Wrong? Yeah, probably. Wise has been miserable at the plate all year, and while Anderson hasn't been good either, he's an above average defender in center field who can contribute with the glove in spot situations. Why doesn't Ozzie recognize this? We don't know. So it must be racism! Yeah!
This is incredibly dumb, but as Ryan Corazza at Mouthpiece wrote yesterday, smart people don't send emails to Ozzie Guillen. It takes an incredibly dumb person to do so. This person has to be so dumb that not only are they convinced that Ozzie cares what they say, but they actually hold the opinion that someone like Ozzie Guillen would make a baseball decision based on race. And their victim in all of this? The not-even-mediocre Brian Anderson. Like we said: not smart.
So our advice to Ozzie? Stop checking your email. Or stop paying attention to what people that email you actually have to say. These people are a small and obnoxiously loud minority of White Sox fans; the rest of the lot aren't nearly as dumb.
