Officer Who Delayed NFL'er at Hospital Has a New Job

New job, new badge in new town

The former Dallas police officer who grabbed national attention and outrage for the way he handled a March traffic stop involving NFL player Ryan Moats has a new job. NBCDFW.com has confirmed with the Stratford police department that Powell is on patrol.

Officer Robert Powell made nationwide headlines when he pulled Moats over for running a red light while Moats and his wife were on the way to the hospital to visit his dying mother-in-law.

The entire interaction, which lasted more than 15 minutes, was caught on dashcam and Moats never got to see his mother-in-law before she passed away.

Officer Powell apologized to Moats and his wife and they accepted it.

Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle placed Powell on leave pending a internal investigation and held a news conference to tell citizens the department found the incident "embarrassing" and shared the feelings of "disappointment and outrage."

In April, Powell resigned from the Dallas Police department saying, "I made this decision in the hope that my resignation will allow the Dallas Police Department, my fellow officers, and the citizens of Dallas to better reflect on this experience, learn from mistakes made, and move forward."

Powell has moved forward, and since August he's been putting on the uniform again in the small Texas Panhandle community of Stratford, 80 miles north of Amarillo.
