No One Knows What The Bulls Will Do
As draft nears, Bulls' plans still obscure

Gar Forman could be a state spy. Really. When it comes to saying something but not saying anything at all -- to obfuscating in one's own self-interest -- the new Bulls general manager is doing an excellent job.
The Bulls have spent most of their time recently working out big men, swing men like Earl Clark and Gerald Henderson, power forwards like DeJuan Blair and James Johnson and even center project B.J. Mullens. Asked by the Tribune's K.C. Johnson what the Bulls are planning on doing in the NBA draft on Thursday (surely, then, they're leaning toward taking a big man?) Forman offered absolutely nothing:
"We may take a point guard if we feel that's the best player available," general manager Gar Forman said at a Berto Center news conference. "We've also had talks with teams about moving back," Forman said. "And we've had talks with teams where either with one or both of our picks, we move out." [...] "People say this draft isn't particularly strong. I would disagree with that in this sense: I'm not sure it's top-heavy. But I do think it's deep. So we feel optimistic that if we stay at 16, we can get a productive player who can play a role for us."In other words, yes, the Bulls are considering moving up, and yes, they're considering moving down, and yes, they're considering staying right where they are and drafting at No. 16 and No. 26. Thanks for the information and insight, Gar, really. We appreciate it.
Of course, we don't expect the Bulls to divulge any pertinent draft information. Everyone at the draft is trying to psyche each other out. Everyone is attempting to keep some major secret strategy from their competitors, lest someone gain some surprise leverage on draft night and decides to make make life difficult for the Bulls. This is just due diligence.
But it'd be nice if, between the mock drafts that are never right and the quotes that never seem to mean anything, we could figure out just a little something about the draft before it happens. Right now, speculation is entirely futile. As if that will stop us.
