Tiger Woods' Former Caddie Ignites Race Debacle

Woods' caddie of 13 years makes inflammatory comments in a fake awards acceptance speech

Steve Williams, the former caddie of golfer Tiger Woods, made inflammatory comments during an acceptance speech after he received a mock award. The remarks were made at the Annual Caddy Awards dinner in Shanghai Friday.
In an interview, for which he won the satirical “Celebration of the Year” award, he said the day his new boss Adam Scott won the Bridgestone Invitational was “the best win of his life,” despite being Woods’ caddie for 13 years. His remark?
“My aim was to shove it right up that black --------.”
He was referring to Woods’ posterior. The comment was met in the banquet room with gasps and a little laughter.
Williams issued an apology on his personal website shortly after: "I apologize for comments I made last night at the Annual Caddy Awards dinner in Shanghai. Players and caddies look forward to this evening all year and the spirit is always joking and fun. I now realize how my comments could be construed as racist. However I assure you that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to Tiger and anyone else I have offended."
