New Bears signing's YouTube presence belies ugly 2008

When you screw up at your job, you get a slight chiding from your boss. Or maybe no one notices at all. When a professional football player screws up, it gets posted on YouTube. These are the differences in the lives we lead.

So it is with some semblance of pity that we link to new Bears signing Josh Bullocks' now-infamous YouTube clip of his safety play in 2008, when he was with the Saints. We feel sort of bad. But we also feel a sense of duty to Bears fans; if you don't watch the tape, you might not realize just what the Bears signed as a free agent. Click here to watch the video. It's pretty horrendous.

David Haugh discovered the clip and made note of it in his column today, (though the Tribune didn't link to it, which is weird, but whatever). In that column, Haugh writes that the Bears "believe a change of scenery and new secondary coach Jon Hoke will transform the player." In other words, the Bears are so confident in their coaching they're willing to take an utter on-field trainwreck of a safety because they believe they can change him. What's the first rule of dating, ladies? You can't change him. I thought we covered this in "He's Just Not That Into You," or any number of other horrible movies.

Anyway, this is the Bears' offseason overhaul: A backup offensive lineman and Josh Bullocks, YouTube Star. Can you feel the excitement?
