Jay Cutler Mum on Status for Sunday vs. Raiders

Cutler has been limited in practice for last two days

The Chicago Bears welcomed Jay Cutler back to the practice field this week as they prepare to face the Oakland Raiders, but despite suiting up, the quarterback won’t say whether or not he’ll play this week.

“We’ve got a couple days left,” he said during a media availability on Thursday. “I’ll be back when I can get back.”

Cutler missed the Bears’ 26-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a hamstring injury during a Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Jimmy Clausen started for the Bears against the Seahawks, throwing for just 64 yards and watching as the offense was forced to punt on all 10 of its possessions.

Despite the struggles of the offense without him, Cutler and the Bears are still exercising caution as to not rush him back from an injury that can have a tendency to linger.

“If you do come back on a hamstring earlier than you want to, it’s definitely going to be in the back of your mind because there’s that slight pull,” he said. “To have to worry about a hamstring and moving around is something that can weigh on you.”

Even with Cutler’s skepticism, the Bears have plenty of incentive to get him back on the field as they pursue their first victory: the team is 5-9 in the games that Cutler has missed since he arrived in Chicago in 2009.
