There was quite a bombshell dropped on Chicago this morning when the New York Post's Peter Vecsey first reported and the Chicago Sun-Times confirmed that Bulls general manager John Paxson was going to resign from his post either next week, or at the end of the season. Now, while there still hasn't been any confirmation from the Bulls on Paxson's resignation, there haven't been any denials either, which is a sign that the story is true.
The reason for this is because the Bulls are likely still in trade talks for Amare Stoudemire, and don't want to make any changes in the front office before any deal is done. Which leads to the bigger question of why Paxson would even choose to resign now. Well, according to David Aldridge on NBA.com, it's due to concerns for his health.
Several league sources told TNT's David Aldridge that Chicago general manager John Paxson has said that health concerns have caused him to consider quitting. Two sources said that they had been told Paxson had an ailment that threatens to become more serious.
"The stress of the job is really getting to John," one source said.
ESPNRadio 1000's Carmen DeFalco said on his afternoon show, The Afternoon Saloon, today that he sent Paxson a text message to confirm if health is at all a factor in his decision, and received a text back from Paxson telling him "I can't comment on that right now."
Once again, no confirmation, but no denial either. If Paxson's resignation is health related, even though many fans have wanted Paxson to step down as general manager for a while now, it's hard to believe any of them would be happy to hear it's because of these circumstances.
