Olympian Jason Brown to Be Honored With Ice Sculpture Replica

Fan favorite Jason Brown is about to get even cooler, literally.

Brown's hometown of Highland Park, Ill., plans to unveil this week a 10-foot replica ice sculpture of the Olympic figure skater.

The sculpture, crafted by artist Nate Johnson, includes Brown's signature ponytail and will be shown at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Port Clinton Square. Brown's family, friends, skate instructors and members of Highland Park Skate Club, where Jason began skating, will help celebrate the unveiling.

Brown served as a replacement on Sunday for Jeremy Abbott, who stumbled in Friday’s short program. After a minor stumble in his routine during the men’s free skate, Brown finished fourth with a score of 153.67.

“I really wanted to do well for the team,” Brown said.

His family and friends back home were cheering him on the whole time. They gathered in Wilmette at the arena he once trained in, to watch him make his Olympic debut in the team figure skating event.

"I can't breathe when he gets on the ice," said his aunt Gayle Malvin. "I get a stomach ache and until he's done, I can't breathe."

The performance ended with cheers and optimism as he heads into the singles events Thursday and Friday.

"I think he skated his heart out," Malvin said. "And can you imagine being on a world stage doing what he did?"
