Rex Grossman gets a second career wind in Houston, and hey, it could be worse.

It hasn't been easy to be Rex Grossman, at least not as pro. After a flashy college career, Grossman was picked in the first round by the Bears, and, well, you know what happened. Good Rex, Bad Rex, more Good Rex, and then mostly Bad Rex, until Grossman was beat out for the starting spot by a more capable, if still limited, Kyle Orton.

Since then, it's gotten worse: Grossman didn't play at all in the Bears 2008 campaign, and was even rumored to be considering the UFL as his next professional option. As Ryan at Mouthpiece Sports wrote: yeesh.

Grossman's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, eventually squashed those rumors. He's back in a similar function today, announcing via Twitter that Grossman expects to sign a one-year deal with the Houston Texans. Well, no kidding.

In terms of actual deal analysis, assuming the deal gets done (no guarantee with Rosenhaus and the word "expect" involved), it's not so bad for the Texans. It's one year. It's probably pretty cheap. And it's the opportunity to see if Grossman has any developmental potential left. His arm has never been in question. It's the mental stuff -- handling the pass rush, making good decisions, and so on -- that have kept him from being productive.

Who knows? Maybe Grossman can find a second life down south. Either way, it beats the UFL.
