Great Ones That Got Away

Greg Maddux: Ask any Cubs fan about Maddux's departure, and you're sure to hear a groan. Maddux was a young star with the Cubs in the early '90s, and an inability to re-sign him -- Scott Boras was his agent, and things got messy -- meant Maddux signed with the Atlanta Braves for a paltry sum in 1993. 300 wins, a World Series, and nearly two decades of insane, best-pitcher-of-all-time-type numbers later, Maddux is still a Cubs sore spot.
