Former NFL Player Darren Sharper Arrested on Suspicion of Rape

Police say Sharper was arrested in connection with two sexual assaults in the West Los Angeles area

Current sports commentator and former NFL player Darren Sharper has been arrested on suspicion of rape in Los Angeles, officials said.

Sharper, a Miami resident, was arrested Friday in connection with sexual assaults in October 2013 and January 2014 in the West Los Angeles area, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Sharper, currently a commentator with the NFL Network, was booked and held in lieu of $200,000 bail. He posted bail just before midnight on Friday, officials said.

"We are suspending Darren without pay until further notice, effective immediately," the NFL Network said in a statement."

Darren is also being investigated by the New Orleans Police Department in connection with a sexual assault that may have taken place in September 2013, NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden said Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing, Los Angeles police said.
