Elkanah Kibet, born in Kenya, is now a U.S. citizen and a member of the Army stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Kibet won the 2015 Virginia Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon with a time of 1:05:22.

Kibet ran at Auburn University in Alabama where he was a two-time All-American, and enlisted in the Army upon his graduation in 2010. In 2014 Kibet won the "shadow" Atlanta-based Peachtree Road Race while deployed in Kuwait.

He will be making his marathon debut at the Chicago Marathon this year.
