The Bulls star is the face of an AT&T bid to get teens to stop texting while driving.
It's estimated more than 16,000 people died from 2001 and 2007 because of texting behind the wheel.
Rose appeared Wednesday with Gov. Pat Quinn, Secretary of State Jesse White, Senate Pres. John Cullerton and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle in making the announcement.
