Baseball players may be required by the rules to wear helmets when they step to the plate, but in the case of the Chicago Cubs, they’ve decided that helmets are necessary in the dugout as well.

Only they aren’t just wearing blue helmets emblazoned with “C”’s anymore:

According to Cubs manager Joe Maddon, the team didn’t actually bring the helmets with them to San Francisco for their series against the Giants, but the home team dutifully provided the Cubs with the specialized headwear.

“It’s a pretty good clubhouse when they have that kind of head gear around,” Maddon told Carrie Muskat of MLB.com.

This isn’t the first time that the Cubs have donned interesting headwear in the dugout this season. Earlier in the year in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, rookie third baseman Kris Bryant took the idea of a rally cap to a whole new level:
