Cubs Name Quade Manager

Two year deal includes option for third year

The Chicago Cubs Tuesday decided to bypass some big name candidates and promote their interim manager, Mike Quade to a full time gig.

Quade and the Cubs reached a two-year deal, with a club option for a third, for the 53-year-old Chicago-area native to helm the team. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

After Lou Piniella departed on August 23, Quade took over as the team's 51st manager and led the squad to a 17-8 record to close out the season.

In choosing their interim manager, Tom Ricketts and Jim Hendry passed on popular Cubs Hall-of-Famer Ryne Sandburg to fill the post.

The team will provide more details at an afternoon press conference.
