Cubs Fans' Botched Gender Reveal Goes Viral

What one couple hoped would be an amazing Cubs-themed gender reveal, turned into a botched moment that wound up caught on camera

It wasn't even a swing and a miss.

What one couple hoped would be an amazing Cubs-themed gender reveal, turned into a botched moment that wound up caught on camera.

Jeffrey Habjan was walking to Wrigley Field on Mother's Day when he said he saw a gender reveal happening.

“So glad I stopped to film it,” he wrote on Twitter.

In the footage captured by Habjan and later posted to Twitter, a pregnant woman holding her young boy, throws a baseball to a man with a bat on the sidewalk near the ballpark. The underhanded pitch goes high and as the man tries to catch it, the ball drops to the ground, releasing blue powder.

It’s a boy.

The video would soon be viewed more than 317,000 times.

The couple, identified only as Sarah and Mike due to concerns over negative comments they have received on social media, said the response to the video has been "pretty crazy and overwhelming."

"We have been die hard Cubs fans our whole lives; the love for the game is actually what brought us together over ten years ago," the pair said in a statement to NBC 5. "That being said, we figured The Friendly Confines on Mother’s Day was the perfect place to tell our family we were expecting another baby boy."

Though they never expected footage of their moment would go viral, the two have so far been good sports about their newfound fame.

"We went into it with bets on odds he would actually hit it, and the odds definitely NOT in our favor," the statement read. "But we figured, either way, it would be entertaining for our family. Never in a million years did we think it would go viral from a bystander! Of course now we’ll never live down my ridiculously awful pitch or my husbands [sic] missed attempt to catch the ball for a re-do. Regardless, we just feel incredibly grateful to give our little boy a baby brother and have something to laugh with him about years down the line! We look forward to attending a lifetime of Cubs games with our growing family!”
