The 2012 Chicago running season got off to its official start Sunday morning, as thousands of runners took to the streets for the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K.

A peek outside just about any downtown window revealed a stream of thousands of smiling runners enjoying the beautiful weather.

The race starts and ends in Grant Park, mirroring a portion of the Chicago Marathon route.
