Chicago Sky Star Elena Delle Donne Wins 2015 WNBA MVP Award

The Chicago Sky are getting ready to compete in the WNBA playoffs for the third season in a row, but on Wednesday their biggest star got a huge honor as Elena Delle Donne won the league’s MVP award.

Delle Donne is the first player in the history of the Sky to win the MVP award, and her victory makes her just the sixth player in league history to have won both the Rookie of the Year award and MVP honors in her career.

In 31 games this season, Delle Donne averaged 23.4 points and 2.06 blocks per game, leading the team in both categories. She also averaged 8.4 rebounds per game and over a steal per game during the regular season.

Delle Donne came to the Sky after playing collegiately for Delaware, with Chicago selecting her with the second overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft. That season, she averaged 18.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game en route to winning Rookie of the Year honors, and she also helped the team to reach the postseason for the first time in franchise history.

Delle Donne and the Sky will be competing in the WNBA playoffs again this season, with a first round matchup against the Indiana Fever scheduled to tip-off on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
