Chicago Cubs Declare “Ron Santo Day”

The Cubs and their fans honor Ron Santo's Hall of Fame induction with "Ron Santo Day" at Wrigley Field Friday

Cubs fans get a special treat at Friday’s home game as the team celebrates the long-awaited induction of Ron Santo into the Hall of Fame.

Dubbed as “Ron Santo Day” at Wrigley Field, the team will begin the commemoration with an on-field ceremony featuring members of Santo’s family before the 1:20 p.m. game.

The team will be decked out in Santo gear and merchandise sellers will hawk special patches, jerseys and gourmet popcorn containers with a Santo feature and baseball card. Even center field gets a fan-picked Number 10 landscape.

The first 10,000 fans through the gate receive a commemorative Ron Santo Hall of Fame Plaque.

The event comes at the end of a series of celebrations honoring the historic player, following a Cubs Corner Luncheon, Cubs Fan Fest, viewing parties of the induction and the induction itself.

“Ron Santo embodied what it meant to be a Chicago Cub,” Chairman Tom Ricketts said in a statement. “This franchise couldn’t be prouder as he is enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and we’re honored he will forever represent the Chicago Cubs in Cooperstown. Our family looks forward to celebrating this well-deserved accomplishment with Cubs fans worldwide.”
