Chicago Delegation Preps for Takeoff

The chartered Boeing 747's bound for Denmark

Well, this is it.

Beginning what's sure to be an exciting and nerve-wracking week, the Chicago bid delegation and many of their supporters will soon board a chartered Boeing 747 headed for Denmark.

The flight's scheduled to depart at 9:30 p.m.

When they arrive, they face four days of Copenhagen events.

On Tuesday, Legendary NFL place kicker Morten Anderson will host a symposium on American football that is sure to baffle soccer aficionados; Nadia Comaneci, Bart Conner and Nastia Liukin will talk about gymnastics; David Robinson and Dikembe Mutumbo will talk hoops and Michael Johnson, Willie Banks and Connie Moore will talk about being fast.

On Wednesday, Mayor Daley will attend Copenhagen school games, a mini-Olympic Games with Danish kids.

Later, Mayor Daley and Chicago 2016 Chairman Patrick Ryan will attend a Red Carpet dinner for the hundreds of supporters who have traveled to Copenhagen to support the bid.

Thursday is the last day for members of the Chicago team to talk to the media, and they're taking full advantage with a press conference at the DGI-Byen.

There will be athlete interviews throughout the day (David Robinson, Bart Conner, etc).

And then Friday morning's the presentation.

The First Lady will be joined on stage by the President, who's now leading the charge for Chicago's final presentation to the IOC.  The White House says the President and Mrs. Obama will also meet with Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, the Prince Consort of Denmark.
