Bears Sign Gafford to 1-Year Contract

The Chicago Bears had a tough time replacing Patrick Mannelly as their long-snapper during the 2014 season, but the team picked up a veteran replacement for the new campaign on Wednesday as they officially agreed to terms with Thomas Gafford on a one-year contract.

Gafford, who has been in the NFL since 2008, has played in recent years for the Kansas City Chiefs, appearing in 105 straight games with the team during that span. He has 19 tackles and a fumble recovery during his NFL career, which began when he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2006.

Jeremy Cain was the team’s main long snapper in the 2014 season, but he had a tough time in the role, leading the Bears to make a change.

Gafford beat out several other younger candidates for the job, but the Bears decided to go with the veteran instead, according to Pro Football Talk
