Bears Lose Preseason Opener

Cutler plays eight snaps

The Chicago Bears opened the 2010 preseason with a 25-10 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

It's only preseason, so the final score doesn't matter all that much, but a few key injuries could. At least five Bears were hurt during the game including QB Caleb Hanie, Safeties Major Wright and Craig Steltz, Middle Linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer and long-snapper Patrick Mannelly.

The Bears' first team offense showed some glimmer in its brief stint on the field. Jay Cutler opened with a 33 yard pass to Johnny Knox. Cutler finished with two passes for 47 yards. Both Cutler throws went to Knox.

Devin Aromashodu turned in a solid performance catching four balls for 78 yards and a touchdown. And Caleb Hanie looked impressive despite an interception and a fumble which led to his injury. He finished with 148 yards and a touchdown to go along with the turnovers.

Rookie third string quarterback Dan LeFlevour played out the rest of a sloppy second half after Hanie left the game.
