The Bulls would like to set the record straight. Reacting to Ben Gordon's claims that they never extended him an offer this morning on ESPN 1000, a Bulls source tells NBC Chicago Sports Paula Faris that Gordon is not telling the truth.
According to the Bulls, Gordon's agent, Raymond Brothers, told the Bulls they would have an opportunity to match an offer, if or when he should receive it. On Wednesday, the first day of free agency, Raymond Brothers called the Bulls, but refused to divulge terms of the offer from Detroit, which turned out to be 5-years, $55 million.
Immediately after the season, the Bulls claimed that Gordon would be their top priority in free agency. He was the teams leading scorer the previous four seasons.
While the Bulls didn't have the chance to counter with Detroit, they did offer him $50 million in 2007, and $54 million in 2008.
Gordon rejected both deals.
