Pitcher Ted Lilly will face White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle at the upcoming All-Star game in St. Louis.
Major League Baseball is approaching the All-Star break, but among the players of Chicago's two professional teams, only two have been chosen to play in the 2009 MLB All-Star Game on July 14.
That speaks volumes about the performances of both the White Sox and the Cubs. Can you say lackluster?
The two local representatives at the game in St. Louis will be left-handed starting pitchers Ted Lilly and Mark Buehrle. Well-deserved accolades to each.
As ESPN reports:
Lilly earned his second All-Star appearance with a 7-6 record and a 3.35 ERA for the Cubs entering Sunday's start against Milwaukee. Buehrle's 8-2 record with a 3.09 ERA earned him his fourth All-Star appearance.
So, Chicago baseball fans have something to be proud of, if not their teams.
Check out the rosters for each league and see if you agree with Cubs manager Lou Piniella when he was bemoaning the fact that Derrick Lee was left out this year.
"You've got the guy in St. Louis (Albert Pujols) and Prince (Fielder, with the Brewers). There are some first baseman having monster years,'' Piniella said.
