Bank of America Chicago Marathon officials say 36,000 runners applied for the last 15,000 slots in a lottery format after the race's website went down last month.

The lottery-based registration for the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon has ended with 36,000 entrants vying for the final 15,000 slots.

Those who entered the lottery will find out by 2 p.m. Tuesday whether they will get to run in the Oct. 13 race. Runners selected in the lottery will have until 9 p.m. March 14 to complete their registration.

Online registration was suspended last month after the marathon's online system crashed, preventing many runners from completing the process. A lottery was set up for the remaining spots, and interested runners were allowed to enter during a two-day period this week.

From those entries, 15,000 names will be randomly selected to fill the remaining spots. Registrations not completed by the deadline will expire and won't be re-issued. Officials say the order or time the entries were received had no bearing on the chances of being selected.

More information is available on the ChicagoMarathon.com website or by calling the marathon office at 312.904.9800.
