Ryan to Ask Obama for Clemency

Motion expected to be filed this week, lawyers say

Attorneys for former Gov. George Ryan say they plan to ask President Obama for clemency.

A federal appeals court in Chicago denied bail for Ryan on Monday, who wants to get out to spend time with his dying wife, Lura Lynn Ryan.

The clemency request is expected to be filed within the next week. They're asking to reduce Ryan's 6.5 year sentence to time-served.

The former governor quietly paid a two-hour visit to his wife last week.  Lura Lynn Ryan has been hospitalized apparent complications from chemotherapy. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer as well as cancer in her kidneys, spine, pelvis and liver.
