Steve Chirico Wins Naperville Mayoral Race

The current Mayor George Pradel retires this year after serving five terms in office

Steve Chirico emerged the victor in the mayor's race in suburban Naperville after the current mayor George Pradel retired after 20 years in office.

The city of Naperville sits in two counties -- Will and DuPage. According to the Will County clerk's office, Chirico held 62.9 percent of the vote as of Wednesday morning. All 24 precincts had reported, but results remain unofficial until April 28. In second place was Doug Krause, who held 27.4 percent of the votes.

Chirico also took the lead in the DuPage County clerk's office's tally. By Wednesday morning, he held 59.9 percent of the vote, and Krause held 29.8 percent. All 88 precincts had reported.

Chirico faced three other candidates in the race: Krause, a realtor at RE/MAX of Naperville; Marty Walker, a retired firefighter and chairperson of Ribfest; and James Haselhorst, a practice manager at a downtown Naperville dental office.

The current and well-liked Mayor George Pradel, who is 77 years old, decided to retire this year after serving five terms in office.

All nine seats on the city council were up for election Tuesday as well. Twenty candidates vied to fill the remaining eight seats.
