Funeral Scheduled for Former U.S. Rep. Lane Evans

Evans was first elected from his western Illinois district in 1982, and went on to serve 12 terms

The funeral for former longtime U.S. Rep. Lane Evans will be Monday in Moline. The 63-year-old Democrat died Wednesday after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline both Saturday and Sunday. Evans' funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Moline.

The Vietnam War-era veteran represented Illinois' 17th congressional district for more than two decades, from 1983 to 2006. He announced he wouldn't seek re-election, citing his deteriorating health, and left office in January 2007.

As a congressman, he fought for the rights of veterans, including pushing legislation to help those exposed to Agent Orange.

He is survived by his three brothers.
