Ebert Tweets a Political Thumbs Up

Chicago Sun-Times film critic makes personal endorsement over Twitter

Film critic Roger Ebert isn’t known for his political endorsements.

By most measures, he’s more of a cinephile than a political junkie, but Ebert tweeted himself right into the upcoming primary mix Friday morning when he sent out an endorsement  for Raja Krishnamoorthi for Illinois Comptroller.

"I'm voting for Raja Krishnamoorthi," the Tweet said.

Krishnamoorthi seemed very excited about the endorsement.

"I'm honored that Roger Ebert gave me a thumbs-up and said he's voting for me!" he tweeted.

He also sent out an email blast to his supporters touting the news:

Dear Friends,

Roger Ebert tweeted today that he is voting on Tuesday for me to be the next State Comptroller!

Krishnamoorthi is one of three Democrats running for comptroller.  David Miller and Clint Krislov are the other two.  The Republicans include former Illinois Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, Jim Dodge and William Kelly.

Sun-Times editorial editor Tom MacNamee said Ebert's tweet should not be seen as an endorsement from the newspaper.

Ebert has not responded to a request for comment.
