LIVE @ 5 p.m.: Blagojevich's "Critical" Announcement

advertisement

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, facing federal charges of corruption, will make a statement Tuesday outside the office of his lawyer, Sam Adam.

His staffers called the announcement "critical," and said the former governor would make "the strongest public statement to date concerning the charges he is facing."

Prosecutors say Blagojevich violated an "honest services" statute by, in part, conspiring to sell or trade Illinois' U.S. Senate seat vacated by President Barack Obama for financial and other personal benefits for himself and his wife.

Blagojevich says he's innocent of all charges and denies any wrongdoing while in office.
