Steve Kim (R) is running for Attorney General.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is no longer running unopposed for re-election next year.  Republicans have officially filled a critical vacancy in their statewide ticket.  Northbrook businessman Steve Kim has met the challenge to run against two-time incumbent Lisa Madigan, who is seeking re-election to the attorney general's post she has held since 2003.

Kim, 39, is the first Asian American to run for statewide office as a Republican.  He currently works as a legal adviser for small businesses and was a former adviser to Gov. Jim Edgar.  Kim has also held executive positions with the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, AT&T and Time Warner Cable.

DuPage County state's attorney Joe Birkett decided not to run for attorney general after Lisa Madigan chose re-election over a chance at a higher office.  He called a race against her "virtually unwinnable."

His campaign platform states: "Protect small business.  Protect senior citizens. Protect disabled people."
