Downstate Illinois politics rarely make the nightly talk shows.

But the hubbub that arose when Illinois Congressman John Shimkus’ (R-19th) walked out on President Obama’s address to Congress Wednesday night helped land Illinois politics on the Keith Olbermann show.

During a back and forth with guest Lawrence O'Donnell, Olbermann called out Shimkus’s stunt the worst of the offense that night.

“The God-will-stop-global-warming-don’t-worry guy walked out on the speech,” Olbermann said, referring to Shimkus’s stance on environmentalism. “He doesn’t even have an opponent for 2010, did he just buy himself one?”
