Quinn Set to Tap Flores as ICC Chief

Flores replaces Blago pick Charles Box

Gov. Pat Quinn plans to announce Alderman Manny Flores as the new chairperson for the Illinois Commerce Commission, the state body responsible for regulating utilities, the Sun-Times reports.

Quinn has a news conference scheduled for Monday in Chicago to discuss the appointment.
Flores, who’s earned a reputation as an independent-minded politician while serving in Chicago’s City Council, said he appreciates the appointment.

"I'm honored for the governor's appointment to serve as the chairman of the ICC," Flores said.

According to the ICC's Web site, current chair Charles Box was appointed by former Gov. Rod Blagojevich effective in January 2006. His term was to expire in January 2009.

It’s unclear when Flores will resign as alderman.
