Reform Leader Netsch Endorses Hynes

Endorsement from reform leader comes hours before last debate

Reform leader and former candidate for governor Dawn Clark Netsch plans to endorse Dan Hynes in the gubernatorial race today, according to sources.

Netsch, a former Illinois comptroller and the first woman in Illinois to be nominated to run for governor, was a much sought after endorsement throughout most of the primary season.

Arriving at Hynes campaign headquarters to cheers from 80 or so volunteers, Netsch said that she was endorsing Hynes because she trusted him.

"Dan Hynes has been a straight shooter from the beginning," said Netsch. "He spoke up when others didn't."

In what could be considered an oblique shot at Gov. Quinn, Netsch also touted Hynes' organizational skills.

"Dan is a solid and competent manager," Netsch said.

Hines said this was "the proudest day" of his political life.

The endorsement comes at an advantageous time for Hynes. The two candidates are scheduled to debate Monday evening at Chicago's WTTW-TV.

Quinn has been on his heels in the last few days after a Hynes launched a surprise attack ad featuring late mayor Harold Washington.
