The Secret Service is investigating a poll that was posted on the social networking site Facebook over the weekend that asked users whether President Obama should be assassinated, officials said today.
The online survey was posted on Saturday and was scrubbed from the site after officials learned of its presence. Still, government officials said they cannot take the threat lightly.
"We are aware of it and we will take the appropriate investigative steps," Darrin Blackford, a spokesman for the Secret Service, said. "We take these things seriously."
The survey asked "Should Obama be killed?" and had response choices of: No, Maybe, Yes and Yes if he cuts my healthcare. The poll was not created by the social networking site but by an independent user relying on a third-party application. More than 730 people took the survey, which has since been removed from the site.
