A federal grand jury has formally indicted two former Chicago politicians.

The 10-count indictment out Thursday alleges former alderman Ambrosio Medrano and former Cook County Commissioner Joseph Moreno of trying to accept kickbacks.

The two were arrested in June on the charges. Moreno is charged with three counts of bribery, two counts of wire fraud, one count of extortion, and one count of conspiracy to commit extortion.

Medrano is charged with two counts of wire fraud, one count of bribery, and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

Medrano plans to plead not guilty to the charges, his attorney, Gal Pissetzky said. Moreno's attorney, Richard Kling, could not immediately be reached for comment.
