Funeral for Ald. Thompson to be Held Monday

Ald. JoAnn Thompson died last Monday of heart failure at the age of 58

A Chicago alderman who passed away last week will be laid to rest Monday.

A funeral service for Ald. JoAnn Thompson (16th) will be held at 12 p.m. at Freedom Temple, at 1459 W. 74th Street. Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who called Thompson a "tireless advocate" for her constituents, is expected to attend and deliver remarks.

Thompson died last Monday of heart failure at the age of 58. She'd represented the 16th Ward since 2007. The ward includes the Englewood and Gage Park neighborhoods.

Due to the ward map being redrawn, Thompson was in a hotly-contested re-election battle. One of her opponents was Ald. Toni Foulkes (15th).
