Robin Kelly seems to be the natural successor to Alexi Giannoulias as state treasurer. After serving as his chief of staff for three years, Kelly knows the ups and downs of the job.

A strong supporter of Barack Obama, Kelly held her first government position after being elected as State Representative in 2002.

A New York-native, Kelly moved to Peoria, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Bradley University.

One major obstacle for Kelly's bid for election as State Treasurer could come in the form of a failed campaign for U.S. senator for Giannoulias
