Bobby Rush Not Surprised by Penn State Scandal

"It makes sense," Rush said.

Illinois Democratic Representative Bobby Rush two weeks ago compared the NCAA to the Mafia for the way it treats their student athletes.

That was before the Penn State child sex abuse scandal erupted.

Thursday, Rush reacted to the news that former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abused children without surprise.

“It makes sense that illegal cover ups and gross failure to protect children from a sexual predator could happen inside a culture where the economic, emotional, and educational exploitation of student athletes is the expected norm,” Rush said.

Head coach Joe Paterno was let go from the the university Thursday, and will not be coaching this weekend’s game.

The defensive coordinator Tom Bradley will serve as interim coach.
