Grinding, twerking and other forms of what some consider "dirty dancing" won't be seen on the dance floor of one Anne Arundel County high school this weekend.
Students at South River High School in East Edgewater, Md., have to sign a contract to attend this year's homecoming dance, The Capital Gazette reports. The contract prohibits salacious dance moves, making out and showing excessive skin on the dance floor.
Parents also have to sign the contracts.
A similar ban is in effect at Annapolis High School, whose homecoming dance is Nov. 2. But this is the first year parents also have to sign the contracts.
According to South River's homecoming dance contract, violators will be removed from the dance and could be banned from future dances at the school.
While twerking is not new, pop singer Miley Cyrus left many people speechless after her high-energy, twerk-heavy performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Since the performance, twerking seems to have become a topic of national conversation.
The term has even been added to the Oxford English Dictionary, which defines it as a "dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance."

Twerking bans are not unique to Maryland, according to the Huffington Post, which reports that other schools across the nation have enacted similar bans for dances.
