A horse that was "dumped" in the Florida Everglades on Thursday night is safe and under the care of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The horse, a 20-year-old Arabian gelding named Oliver, was abandoned near 120th Street and 197th Avenue in the Eastern Everglades, the group said in a Facebook post.
The horse was covered in summer sores and extremely malnourished, the group said.
"When I pulled up, he had his head up and was snorting loudly at something only he could see in the distance — and he was ready to go. He still has a lot of life left in him," said Laurie Waggoner, with the SPCA.
SPCA officials said the horse was back safe at their ranch where he was receiving care.
A third horse was discovered abandoned near Northwest 174th Street and 134th Avenue. There was also a report of a dead horse at the scene.
