The 50-year-old nanny was arrested Friday on charges including endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated, Toms River police said

A New Jersey mom returned home to find her new nanny passed out drunk and her crying son wearing a soiled diaper, police said Saturday.

The 50-year-old nanny was arrested Friday on charges including endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated, Toms River police said.

Police said the mother had recently hired the nanny through the online service Care.com. She left the nanny with her son for nearly four hours on Friday, and when she returned she discovered the startling scene.

The nanny fled the house, unsteady on her feet and mumbling, before getting in a car and driving over a fire hydrant, according to police. Authorities responding to the scene of the crash discovered three empty bottles of alcohol in the car and found the nanny's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.

The nanny was ordered held on $50,000 bail. It wasn't immediately clear who was representing her in court.

A spokeswoman for Care.com said the company was "disheartened" by the allegations. She said Care.com was cooperating with authorities.
