El Paso Man Could Get 18 Months in Jail For Urinating on the Alamo

An El Paso man faces up to 1½ years in state jail after pleading guilty to urinating on the Alamo.

Daniel Athens pleaded guilty Tuesday in state district court in San Antonio to felony criminal mischief. In a statement, Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed says Athens reached a plea deal that includes paying restitution of $4,000 to repair damage to the former mission's limestone facade.

Athens, who's 23, was arrested April 14, 2012, after he was found urinating on a front wall of the shrine. He initially was charged with misdemeanor public intoxication and public urination, but the district attorney's office said it might pursue the state-jail felony charge.
